Our council has authorized supporting two families, one from St Mary’s and one from St Ann’s, under the KofC Food for Families program. Budget for each family is $100.
St Mary’s has a senior women with stage 4 liver cancer that wants to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner for her 9 grandchildren. Groceries for her dinner has been purchased and delivered to Rita Blank, office secretary for St Mary’s, on Friday. Rita and Fr Godred delivered the groceries on Friday. Purchased items included turkey, potatoes, yams, corn, green beans, white house rolls, cranberry relish, cool whip, pumpkin and pecan pie. Grocery cost came to $72. A $25 Food Lion gift card was added.
Steve and Debby Turner have been requested for our family at St Ann’s by Fr Jim and Liz. Debby is asking for us to prepare and delivery the meal at noon on Thanksgiving for 5-6 people. The family has a gluten free request. I will buy similar items, but with the gluten free items. My wife, Khaki, is gluten free and will prepare most dishes. Would anyone like to prepare the turkey and potatoes? I will guide on gluten free. I would like two brothers to volunteer to deliver the entire meal at noon to their residence on Thanksgiving. I am guessing the cost of this meal will come in under $60 and will purchase a gift card for the difference for their future food needs.
