In anticipation of next Saturday’s (12/13/2025) Long John Golf Tournament, a sign-up sheet has been posted on our website under Volunteer Opportunities. We need many hands for next week, both inside and outside crews to make this event a success.
Morning Responsibilities
Most of the volunteer slots are in the morning. For inside volunteers, we will need help with set-up, registration, and ticket sales. Two outside volunteers needed for a golf cart crew to set up sponsor signs (and review the master list to ensure all signs are displayed) and the Hole-in-one sign (#14).
Tournament Support
Once the tournament starts, we will need two outside golf cart crews.
The first crew will monitor Hole #14 (the hole-in-one challenge). There will be 3 shifts of 90 minutes on the sign-up sheet.
The second crew will check on golfers (carry hot water & coffee), take pictures of signs and golfers.
Many of the morning responsibilities for the indoors crew will be completed, so several of those Knights would be welcome to work the golf cart crews.
The remaining inside duties whilst the tournament is underway will be to prepare the main room for food service and help with counting tickets and receipts. Also, 1 or 2 Knights will need to pick-up the banquet lunch.
Banquet and Clean-up
We will need lunch servers, plus 2 Knights for last minute raffle and 50/50 sales. After lunch, MC Don Montag will need some assistance with the drawing and distribution of prizes.
One Golf Cart crew to pick-up all the signs.
And after the banquet, 4-5 Knights to help pack-up and ensure no golfer (or his possessions) is left behind.
Signing up
Please sign-up on-line. In case you are having any issues, I have attached a pdf version of the sign-up sheet (with 2024 volunteers). If you are having any issues on-line, please e-mail me (Dave Macera) at with your selections and times (yes, you can sign-up for more than one as long as the times do not overlap).
As always, please be flexible and patient over the course of the day since there may be some course corrections along the way.
Other
- Volunteer identification – please either wear your Council shirt or name badge in support of #7538.
- Wheelbarrow of Booze – we could use a few more bottles (unopened) for the wheelbarrow of booze raffle drawing. You can drop it off on Friday between 4:30 and 6:30 or on Saturday morning at Hanover Golf Course (14314 Country Club Drive, Ashland , Va. 23005). If you are planning to donate a bottle or two, please let Mario or Don Montag know in order to align on rendezvous time.
Thanks in advance for all of your service to make this event a success!
